Short Code Management

Overview

Signal’s robust shortcode management capabilities take the guess work out of managing shortcodes. Shortcodes are unique 5-6 digit phone numbers used specifically for text message marketing. You may see 4 digit shortcodes from time-to-time but, these are exclusively reserved for use by cellular carriers.

Shared Shortcodes for Self-Service Accounts

Shared shortcodes use the same number for multiple accounts. Using a shared shortcode does not provide an inferior experience for you or your customers as your subscribers and programs are still completely separate from other accounts. Simply select a keyword for your List or Promotion that people will text to your shortcode to participate. A keyword can be any word your select assuming it is not being used by another account or it’s not one of the few keywords reserved for carrier compliance (STOP, HELP, etc.).

Dedicated Shortcodes for Enterprise Customers

Dedicated shortcodes are obtained through the Common Shortcode Administration (CSCA) and come in two options 1) Vanity and 2) Random. Vanity shortcodes can be selected by the customer for reasons inclusive of matching the corresponding brand name or finding a code that just appears easy to remember or text.. The CSCA charges $500/mo for a random shortcode and $1,000/mo for a vanity shortcode. It can take approximately 6-8 weeks to obtain carrier approval and activate on the carrier network

Managing Multiple Shortcodes

For accounts with multiple business units or similar needs, you can manage multiple shortcodes under a single account. Assign one shortcode as the default code for the account.
